Whitemans Green Active Track is a proposal for an approximately 1km, two-lane synthetic track following the perimeter of Whitemans Green recreation ground in Cuckfield. Led by Haywards Heath Harriers, the project is being developed as a facility for the whole community, not simply for club athletes.
~1kmA route around Whitemans Green
Two lanesA consistent synthetic surface
All yearMore dependable opportunities to be active
Designed around everyday activity
The track is intended to welcome many different kinds of use: a morning walk, a child’s first run, a wheelchair workout, a Couch-to-5K group, an older resident staying active, a club training session or a runner looking for an alternative to dark winter roads.
Accessible and welcoming
A predictable, even surface could help remove some of the practical barriers that prevent people from becoming active. Accessibility will remain an important part of the project as the concept moves into technical and detailed design.
Working alongside existing recreation
Whitemans Green is already an important home for sport and recreation. The track concept is intended to complement those existing uses. Its precise route, specification and relationship with pitches and other facilities will be refined through technical work, stakeholder discussions and the planning process.
What still needs to be decided?
- Detailed route, levels and construction specification
- Access points and inclusive-design requirements
- Drainage, lighting and environmental considerations
- How construction and future operation would work alongside existing users
- Planning requirements, costs and delivery programme
One track. Lots of ways to use it.
The proposal is deliberately simple: a high-quality local place where being active feels normal, safe and welcoming.
